PROFILE
After studying at the University of Miami School of Architecture and receiving his bachelor’s degree, Jason advanced his study of urban design with a Master of Architecture in Suburb & Town Design. After graduation, he spent the next two decades in Florida working with traditional firms in architecture and urban design - Caruncho Martinez & Alvarez Architects, Cooper Johnson Smith Architects, and Looney Ricks Kiss learning the art and craft of drawing, design and construction. There he had the opportunity to work on projects in new urbanist towns such as Windsor, Rosemary Beach, Celebration, Palmetto Bluff and Alys Beach.
More recently, Jason was hired as director of design with Dungan Nequette Architects in Birmingham, AL where his work included the design and management of custom residences, developer spec homes, and master planning projects. Currently he is the senior designer and project manager with Bradford R. Houston Design Studio in Salt Lake City, UT, contributing on custom residential and master planning projects in the mountain west.
With a love for traditional vernacular architecture and new urban town planning, Jason’s design studio Dunham Design, LLC has designed many custom residences in Florida, most notably Rosemary Beach and Alys Beach, where more than 20 homes are built, under construction or currently on the boards.
Jason’s has been recognized by national and local awards organizations, including: the Palladio Award from the ICAA, the Mizner Award with the Florida ICAA, and a local urban design award for a HOPE VI master planned redevelopment in Bradenton, FL.
Both academically and professionally, Jason’s work has been published in Vincent Scully’s Between Two Towers, Joanna Lombard’s Historic Landscapes of Florida, and Russell Versaci’s Roots of Home. Publications include Period Homes, Southern Living, Traditional Home and New Old House.
CNU-accredited since 2008, Jason is dedicated to the causes of traditional architecture and urban design that improve the way we live, work, play and associate with each other in traditional communities. He has been a participating member of the CNU, the ICAA, INTBAU, The Seaside Institute, and The Urban Guild since 1996.
A commitment to traditional urbanism and elevating architecture as a civic art influences all of our work as a small part of the greater context of a place. Essentially, we are placemakers.
